    Default leveling for AGP

Newbie on the site! Looks like lots of good info. I'm in the process of having a 24' found AGP installed. I've done some preliminary digging and have talked to the excavator who said he commonly will build up a low side in order to level. I've dug about 2.5' out of the high side already. Most of what I've read said avoid building a low side as much as possible. Is there a standard operating procedure in the event that a portion of the foundation has to be built up? How about special materials or fill needed? thanks.

Hi and welcome! I'm not a builder and somebody may come along with better advice, but I didn't think you were supposed to build up, but instead, dig out and level. At least that is what we did when we installed our AG. Hopefully one of our builder members will chime in here before long. At any rate, wanted to pop into your thread and say hello and also thank you for becoming a subscriber. We really appreciate the support. Hope you find the forum helpful and enjoy being a member here. Pool Forum is a great place and we are glad to have you!

not experienced with pools, but built plenty of houses, decks, sheds, etc...
You are always better off digging down, than building up- but building up can be done
You have to take measures to ensure what you build up doesn't erode, or wash away
And you have to pack the new stuff in- your existing ground has had rain and whatever compacting it for years, new fill will compact and leave "holes" in your ground under a pool liner...
So, if they landscape well, and pack the fill, it can be done- but digging out is easier in the long run IMO...
    Good Luck!

Building up is much more expensive than digging down--as long as you don't hit anything. To build up you need to use reinforcement, like retaining wall block or railroad ties (a bad choice because they rot eventually). Plus you need to go much wider than the pool. Digging down you don't need to go as wide.
