I have been using Clorox's new formula off and on since last summer -- I have probably used around 20 gallons in my pool since the addition of the sodium polyacrylate into their formula. Why? Clorox is the only brand my local warehouse store carries, and the 3-pack of large bottles is convenient, and have not seen any ill effects on my pool. I still recommend and use generic bleach whenever possible, however, to be on the safe side.

Waiting to add the CYA and adding the bleach now might not help you. The CYA binds to the clorine in the bleach so the UV rays from the sun don't burn it off. If there is no CYA in the pool now - you can add all the bleach you want and in one day the sun will burn it off.
