Default Question about Soaking filter cartridges

I have followed all the threads about the best way to clean the cartridges from my filter. I have a large filter--the cartridges are about 4 feet long and I have 4 of them! I can soak one end of each in a 30 gallon trash can and then flip them to soak the other end. I have my dishwasher detergent (cheap stuff from Costco) and I have plenty of muriatic acid. How do I empty the trash cans into the waste drain between/after soaking? This is a lot of heavy liquid that I don't want to haul around. I do have a sewer line cleanout near my equipment that I regularly open to drain off pool water in the winter (handy hose bib provided in pool plumbing for this purpose). Should I just install a bib at/near the bottom of the 30 gallon can and use a short piece of hose to drain into the cleanout?

Are you sure they need to be soaked? I've been cleaning mine with just a hose and they come out fine.

I understand that every few cleanings, you should soak them. I actually bought a new set this year because the old ones are showing a bit of wear, but I want to clean the old ones well.

Anyone have input on this? Simple question that I can't get my head around. What do you do with the dirty soak solution in a large trash barrel? How/where do you dump it?

I have only cleaned my twice but each time I did soak them in simple green and water. Pool was new and a lot of plaster dust in the filter.

A good indicator would be that the pressure does not drop all the way after cleaning. At that point a soak may be necessary. Also, if your family uses a lot of sun screen, I would suggest a soak each cleaning.

I am planning on only cleaning mine twice a year so it is not much extra work to soak them overnight between filter cycles.

I dump the water near the pad where I have just dirt and bark and a low spot where it collects and then is absorbed into the dirt. I know of others who clean their filters on their lawn and dump the water there.

Thanks Mark! I also just read at my sanitation district website that my husband shouldn't be cleaning the filters on the driveway to let the waste run into the storm drain....it should be done on the lawn or dirt.

I just wasn't sure about dumping detergent into the ground, but it is probably mostly fertilizer if anything.....
