Pool deck coating

I am just installing a new in the ground pool. The company suggests coating the concrete deck. Do I need to do this? If so what are the benefits?

Also, I used a chemical stain on the floor on my screened in porch and I love it. Can I do the same thing around my pool? (light color of course)

I had my IG built 15 years ago and went with brushed concrete and I think it still looks pretty good. We just had our pool replastered darker, changed the tile and thought about a cool deck type coating, because it would totally change the pool look. But we held off, because of cost, but probably will coat or stain the concrete at some point.

My nephew does some stamped concrete work that is amazing, you would think it was stone or tile!
