Air gap behind liner

Hi everyone, brand new to this Forum. This is really a fantastic site!

My I.G. pool was installed last year, at the end of the season; so I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I just finished filling my pool a couple of days ago, and there is about a half inch gap of air behind the liner in each of my rounded corners. It is very tight against the walls everywhere else.

Is this normal?

I don't know if it is normal or not, but in my AG pool, I had a part of the liner that was not flat against the pool wall at first. After a bit of time (and doing nothing) it did lay down flat against the wall. I cannot remember how long it took as it was five years ago.

Welcome! Do you mean that there is a gap up at the top of the corner, above and at the water line? If so, this is NORMAL for IG vinyl pools. Don't freak. If it extends down the whole length of the corner, I'd call the builder.

Our IG liner pool is entering its second season. We had the same issue, and we were paranoid because we installed our own liner. Fortunately, the person who delivered our first few thousand gallons of water had done a lot of pools, and he assured us that the liner stretching inside the inside rounded corners was normal. Friends of our have a 12-year-old liner -- same thing in their corners.

It's fine. I still worry about sharp objects puncturing the liner there, but I keep anything with edges miles away from the pool. Joie

Those pesky 4" radius corners....everyone I know with one like that has the same problem! I don't think it's a problem, just the nature of how the vinyl adjusts around a corner, further down, the weight of the water pushes it flat against the steel pan behind it, just like you can push it flat with your hand above the water line.

Most builders size the liner so that it will have a tight fit (meaning that it will have to stretch to truly fit all the walls and corners).

It will take some time for it to get it's final fit, but you will be fine. Undersizing the liner a little helps to prevent wrinkles during the liner installation and is a normal practice.

I'm with Andy...having just replaced our liner....

During filling I wondered if the corners would EVER fit.... they absolutely did, so never underestimate the power of wate pressure.

Had some anxieties during filling...even halfway up the walls, I had corners hanging out 6"or more, they are now now maybe 1/2" away, AT THE MOST.

Now that it's filled, we couldn't be more pleased with the fit. No wrinkles and the liner stays in the bead throughtout.

Better to have a tight fit when it comes to liners.
