    Default Backpressure problem

Inground pebbletec ,10,000 gallons, Swg,sand filter 1hp pump. Just opened the pool. Still getting all the algae out so the water is silk very cloudy and blue listerinish. My problem is that my back pressure will raise to 30psi in about 30 minutes.i turn the pump off for 30 seconds then turn it on and my pressure drops to 12psi again. When the pressure is at 30psi the waterfall and the kreepy krawley stop working so I have to run outside all day to mess with the filter. I have back washed it 4 times in the past 3 days since opening it but I dont remember having to go through this last season. What could be the problem?

    Welcome to the forum.
Turning the pump off and on again to drop the pressure is a normal thing but usually when you do that the pressure will go high again very quickly compared to a backwash. I think what's going on is the crud that is being filtered out and restricting the flow just goes back into suspension momentarily when you kill the pump. As long as you still have algae, dead or alive, you'll have this problem. When you do cycle the pump, approximately how long does it take to go from 12 back to 30 or so? You may be better off just doing a quick backwash compared to a real thorough backwash and rinse, until you clean up the pool. Try doing a BW for maybe 10 seconds or so just to get the bulk of the trapped stuff out. Don't worry about getting the filter really clean. Save that for when the water is almost clear.

thanks for the help. it takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to go back to 30 once i get it dropped.if i quick backwash i can get it to last 30 minutes then back to 30psi and i start the cycle all over again. I'll just keep at it and hopefully as the water clears it will go longer and longer. i guess im jumping the gun and getting impatient. this thing was a real swamp. dead lizards, pidgeons, feathers, leaves, weeds, newspapers, cans, cigarette butts,a dora the explorer doll, the kitchen sink! you name it it was in there. i even found my old pole with my brush at the bottom. LOL

Wow...didn't realize it was that bad. A few years ago I opened late and I thought mine was a swamp. Pea green but cleared in less than a week. Yours sounds really gross. Yes, all yours should need is patience and a load of chlorine.
