If your plan is to run on both speeds during the day, a two speed timer would be a good idea. However, some people find that running on low speed all the time works well and use high speed just for vacuuming.
If you change from single speed 220v pump to 2 speed, wouldn't you need to replace the control box so you could control the time on each speed? Or is this done on the pump itself?
