    Default Overlap Liner Question

Just bought a home, money super tight so I am considering two options. The first and cheapest option is getting a used above ground pool off of Craig's List.

Here is my question about this option....
I plan on putting in a deep end and expandable liners must be overlap liners. A pool I found is the perfect size (15x30 oval) but it has a beaded liner system. Can I remove the beaded receiver and make this pool an over lap liner pool so I can enjoy a deep end? Also do over lap liners go right over the aluminum wall or is there plastic coping underneath the liner to prevent the sharp edge of the wall from cutting the liner?

Option 2 is me building a wooden pool, but I need to make some drawings before I ask questions about that.

I would strongly recommend looking at an Intex metal frame pool. CarlD, one of the moderators, started with one of those. You can get 2+ years of life from them and (IMPORTANT) you'll be able to get it installed and working with minimal effort.

A wooden pool is tinkerer's project -- something to tackle only if you (and your family) will enjoy the process as much as the end product.

A used AG pool is very frequently a case of buying someone else's problems. Not always, but are you willing to go through full purchase and installation, only to face a 30 - 50% chance of having to start over?

Thanks for the reply. I already have a 16' round intex from last summer and want bigger. I bought the house July 2010. You cannot do a deep end with an intek pool.

Would you know if a pool with a beaded liner can become an overlap liner by just removing the beaded receiver?

I assume that you are talking about buying a NEW liner, to do this with?

I'm not an AG pool expert, but this page makes it sound like you can convert a beaded pool to an overlap one:

I think your best bet is to find a seller of the liner you want, and then ask them what it will take to make your pool work with their liner. Their advice on a topic like that is probably going to be your most reliable info.

Thanks, I agree it sounds like you can just lift off the beaded reciever and use an over lap liner. I will have to purchase the plastic copings, but they are not very expensive. I will know for sure when I check out the pool first hand this weekend.
