    Default Emergency Shutdown

Had a leak on the filter backflush side and had to do an emergency drain of filter and pump due to freezing temps. Not sure if its just the gasket or what. My question is this: Until I get the leak fixed can I still add bleach without the water circulating? If I walk around the pool and scatter the bleach around will it be ok?

You can scatter the bleach around--it's better than nothing!! Be careful not to splash it on the sides or anything else that might stain--and you might want to consider following it up with a good stirring by your pool pole or a broomstick.

I usually add bleach by broadcasting it across the surface from a plastic pitcher, which avoids getting a heavy concentration in any one place. During the off season, when the pump isn't running, I drag the leaf net on the pole through the water a few times to stir things up. This does a good job of disseminating the bleach throughout.

Sorry to hear about your equipment breakdown.

Not to resurrect such an old post for sake of it, but because the date and topic killed my just back self! In the 5 weeks prior to this post I had way over 60" of snow. I can't imagine (LOL), "shovel out a path, drill a hole, using a hand blender of sorts and a funnel..." "consider covering a pool when the filter is not running to avoid the urge to ice fish..." albeit, my huge pool savings last summer easily paid for my XC skis!
