Default Hayward Navigator-slow pump start up

Replaced old, old, Polaris with Hayward Navigator, works great.

But...when pump first comes on, it takes about 10 minutes for pump to prime, and Navigator to start working.
But return/supply jets continue to squirt air/bubbles for another 10 minutes, then everyting is fine.
Pool guy says all's fine, (he has same Hayward Navigator), I think I have a slow/small leak.
He says his Navigator starts working within a minute or two.

I'm new to the whole pool thingy, have a pool guy/neighbor helping me out now, for awhile, untill I learn how to do it myself.

    Thanks, Wayne

Sounds like a slow leak to me, but I'm sure the experts will chime in soon. Is your water level high enough in the skimmer to keep the pump from losing its prime?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Your Navigator is a suction side cleaner and I agree with Jan that you have an air leak or similar in the hose that allows it to drain when the pump is off.

What I'd do is to disconnect the hose when firing up the pump in the morning and then reprime the hose before reattaching it to the skimmer.

This shouldn't take long and, when repriming the hose, you may well see where the air is getting in
