    Default Shock Before Closing? NE

I've been awaiting a liner replacement (will probably hold off until spring now) the past few weeks and I've observed something. My water temp is down below 60 degrees - been hovering there this whole time - and I haven't added a drop of bleach and there is no algae problem at all. With the exception of cleaning out some leaves lately, the water is sparkling clean.

So do you really have to give it the proverbial shock treatment before close? Let alone the sometimes recommended dose of poly-quat 60? Wouldn't it simply dissipate/evaporate out over the course of the winter anyway and not really provide any [long-term] benefit? I'll have ice within the next several weeks that will last till March or so; then I'll shock to open (as usual) and clean up the winter stuff anyway.

Just wondering what you guys think about that.
    Regards,

As long as all has been good, and especially since you're replacing the liner in the spring, don't worry about it

No, you are good. I TRY to get my water down to 60 before I close and I shock beforehand, but as it gets colder, from 60 on down, it inhibits algae better than any algaecide.
