Thanks for the good advice. My wife found this forum for me as I had a major Green Algae bloom when I got back from vacation. I tried the stuff the local pool shop was telling me to do, with no real progress on getting rid of the algae.

Bought a taylor 2600 kit and that helps the testing tremendously.

So, this forum is a Great place for clear/concise advice!!

I have an 18 foot above ground vinyl pool
about 7500 gallons

I kept the chlorine high using the reccomended 6% bleach.
I have been scrubbing and vacuuming almost everyday and testing 2 to 3 times a day.


Now, my water is very cloudy but not green.

My numbers are:

FC: 40 PPM
CC: 1.0 PPM
PH: 7.4
TA: 160
CYA: ~30

So, now I guess its just POPP until clear.

Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the cloudiness?

I will now use the local pool shop for Taylor regents and parts.

I started a new thread for you for your pool problem and moved your post here. That is better than tacking it at the end of the stickied thread.

Your FC of 40 is REALLY HIGH for a vinyl pool with a cya reading of 30. I hope it doesn't fade your liner. It certainly ought to kill anything that is growing in your pool!

Typically for a pool with cya of 30. we recommend somewhere between 12-15 for the FC level when fighting algae. Let it drop down to that range. Run your pump 24/7 and let your filter do its job removing dead algae.

What did you use for your chlorine? Cal-hypo? Dichlor powder? Bleach or some liquid chlorine? I'd suggest just sticking with bleach. Any idea what your calcium hardness reading is?

I'm not sure how you can have an FC of 40, a CYA of 30 and STILL have a CC of anything greater than zero, but you report 1.0.

I suspect you meant to say your FC is 4.0 and your CC is 1.0, in which case you need to raise your FC to 15 and keep it there at least 24 hours until your CC is 0.

Today my readings were:

FC: 27 PPM
CC: 0 PPM (My CC reading last time was erroneous, I did the test wrong).
PH: 7.4
TA: 150
CYA: ~20

Still getting the hang of the Taylor 2600.

Vacuumed the pool again this morning

Pool is still very cloudy, hoping it clears soon so I can close it.

I was using 6% chlorine bleach, as suggested in the prvious forum.

You're on the right track, just let the chlorine drift back down to the 10-15 range and keep it there until the pool is cleared. Brush daily, keep the filter running 24/7 and clean it as your pressure indicates. Hang in there!!
