Default Pentair SAM light failure - replacement needed

    Hi all...

Our Pentair SAM pool light failed. It had been limping along the last two years (I replaced the color wheel motor twice, and the gasket every time, but it kept leaking), and has finally bought the farm. The sealed "whatever" in the back of the housing cracked, and I can smell fried electronics.

So, long story short, I'm going to need to replace it.

Reading on the web, I see LED lights seem to be the way to go. Does anyone have any recommendations on a possible replacement? Will they fit in the existing opening? Our current SAM light is 120v, not the low voltage kind, so what else would need to be done?

Also, I've got about a 75 foot run to the light. How does one usually replace that?

I can usually figure this stuff out if I can read about it, but there seems to be very few resources online.

Thanks for any tips or pointers,

    /greg

If you are using a SAM light now, the old style American Products fixture (now Pentair) will work just fine in that niche. Out of the box, it will have an incandescent bulb that you will have to open and replace with the LED light of your choice. You will also need to specify your length of cord as the fixture and the cord are sold as one piece.

Or were you looking for an LED fixture?

Sorry if i sent you in the wrong direction...

No worries... I was looking to replace the entire SAM light with a "modern" LED light, but I wanted to know if it will fit in the niche that is there for the SAM light without any modifications. Or will I have to remove and replace the niche?

And, also... I'm looking for some instructions on 1) how to run the wires, and 2) reseal up the niche when I'm done. I'm handy, but I've never done any work on a pool before.

    Thanks...

If you want, post a link of a light that you want to use, and we can tell you if it will fit in your niche.
