Default Pool Cloudy Blue Now What

I removed the solar cover to discover green algae growing in the pool. Brushed pool and brought CL up to about 18 (CYA is 50) at 9:00 this AM. Now the pool is now cloudy blue. If tomorrow AM the cc is 0 and pool holds chlorine level, can I start to let chlorine fall or do I keep shocking until pool is no longer cloudy? Does high level of chlorine cause pool to be cloudy or is it dead algae and the filter will clear it up?.
I cannot believe after the summer I have had with this pool I let this happen!! When I tested the pool this morning CL was 4 and cc was .5
Oh yea, we bought a new filter about 1 week ago and the cloudy pool I have had all summer cleared to crystal in 1 day. We now have a 150 lb filter to go with our 1 1/2 hp pump. The old filter was just recirculating water all summer. The new filter is great.

Thanks for all your help this summer.

You can let it drift down.

It is dead algae. Run your pump 24/7 and it will filter out. Watch your pressure and backwash if it increases by 8-10 psi over your clean filter pressure.
    Hope this helps!

Is it normal to not see anytning on the bottom of the pool after shocking? Pool is still cloudy and I am running filter 24/7. Lost 1ppm chlorine overnight and this AM 0 cc. I still kept the pool at 15-16 Chlorine level all day. If I still do not lose more than 1ppm ch and cc is 0, I will just let it drift down tomorrow. I trust the cloudiness will disappear in time. Do I have this right? Why do I not see dead algae at the bottom of pool?

    Thanks for your help, again!!

Thumbs up Re: Pool Cloudy Blue Now What

From what I've read here: I'd guess your cloudy is dead algae and that it won't settle on the bottom because your filter is stirring it up 24/7. I think this is good. Keep filtering / chlorinating 'till there is no more CC and your FC holds overnight. Wash the filter when you have to and stay after it - you're winning - congrats!

Thanks, Dave! I hope I got it this time. My second run with algae, due to laziness. Would be nice to use the pool one more time this summer since it will be 90 on Sunday!
