They have some uses in commercial installations and possibly indoor pools but are not really a useful item in outdoor pools.
They are not a primary sanitizer and much of their benefit is in control of persistent chloramines, which are not normally a problem in outdoor pools.
Retired pool store and commercial pool maintenance guy.
