I used the cheap HTH drop test kit I picked up at Walmart while I wait for my Taylor K2006 to arrive. I just ordered it last night after reading some posts here for the first time. The HTH kit did show a high (off the chart) chlorine reading about an hour after I added the shock/ bleach last night. But nothing this morning.

I called home (I'm at work) and told my wife to add 3 more 1.42 gallons of 6% bleach this morning after reading Watermom's reply. This probably took it up to 10ppm for at least a brief period of time.

I intend to check again as soon as I get home and add enough to get me to the 12ppm as suggested and then do it again before I hit the sack tonight if necessary.

This can get expensive even using no name bleach but I don't know what else to do at this time. It's really frustrating
