I will stay in touch, pass on the word to others, and keep my pool nice. Checking again this morning, and all is looking good. I need to splash some chlorine in it, but it is a new pool, so it is going to take a bit to finish stabilizing. I am considering a SWG system, but the one's I can afford are the less expensive Intex versions, and that won't quite generate enough for 17K gallons (according to research, they top out at 15K.) Too bad there hasn't been an auto chlorination system invented for plugging a bottle of bleach into it, then letting it go. LOL
To those who are just joining/finding the site, trust the words here. I wondered, half-questioned, but followed the advice anyway. The water feels better, is clearer, and I feel better not having the chemicals in the water or around the house. I even gave away the leftover 3" chlorine tabs from last year, when we had a MUCH smaller pool. This works, the chemistry is dead on, and it is a LOT more fun to maintain the pool now.

Really glad to have you here and thanks for the testimonial. It probably does sound crazy to people who stumble across our forum but as you found, it works!
It's The Liquidator. It is sold here and here where the latter source has the pretty-much-necessary upgrade to the tubing. There are many threads at Trouble Free Pool (TFP) on The Liquidator including this one, this one and this one and also this thread here at The PoolForum.
