    Default pump wiring

I installed a hayward 1hp pump on a 15 amp breaker running 110 and it work fine. I was talking to a friend and was told that it should be running 220 on 14/2 wire. Yesterday I installed a new double pole breaker and a double pole switch than I switch the jumper in the pump back to 220 and nothing happens. check all the connections and everything seemed good. So after playing with it and getting nowhere I moved the jumper back to 110 and told the white off of the breaker and back to the bus bar and it works again any ideas?

Are you sure it's a dual-voltage pump? Which model is it?
