    Default Another Cloudy Pool

Hi everyone. I've been reading this forum non-stop the past week and have been trying to follow the steps to clear my pool water.

I have a 27ft above ground pool that was purchased mid-season last year. My kids and wife loved me like never before! That...was last year.

The pool wasn't covered for the winter which I assume has caused much of my problems this year. I finally have the pool a nice blue color but its very cloudy. I cant see more than 12-14" deep.

The sand filter has been running 24/7 since I opened the pool.

I will grab some numbers from my Test strips and post them shortly. It would be nice to see my wife smile at me again.

Hi MusicMan! Glad to have you on the forum. We DO want current water testing numbers but from a drops-based kit. We do not like test strips. We actually recommend that all pool owners buy a really good kit because that way, you know you have accurate numbers. We like the Taylor K-2006. It can do every test you need and will make clearing your pool so much easier. See this thread:

    http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?t=10006

At any rate, in the meantime, can you pick up a cheap 5-way kit from Walmart or your pool store? (Just don't let them talk you into buying anything while you are there.)

Was your pool green upon opening? Are you backwashing when your filter pressure rises 8-10 psi over clean filter pressure?

Post some numbers for us to look at and tell us the volume of your pool and exactly what all you have put in the pool -- meaning ingredients, not just "shock." Then somebody here can take a look and try and help. We certainly can't have your wife frowning at you!!
