Cannot Get Total Alkalinity to Go Down
I'm new here. Hi to everyone and Thanks for having me as a member.
This is the 1st time I have ever had a problem with Alkalinity being too high.
Normally it will get to low and for that I added Baking Soda and it would go up.
Here are my test Results.
FC 5
PH 7.2
TA 140
CH 300
CYA 35
Taylor K -2005 Test Kit
20 x 40 Gunite Inground Pool
29000 Gallons
I have lowered PH and Aerated with a Fountain but the Alkalinity will not come down.
Any help will be appreciated.

Lowering alk is not a quick process but it can be done. Steps for doing so are here:> http://pool9.net/alk-step

Great. It takes time and patience but it will come down. Keep us posted how things are going and let us know if you have further questions. We'll be here! :)
Re: Cannot Get Total Alkalinity to Go Down
. . . membership updated.
Do you have a pool heater or a SWCG (salt water chlorine generator)?
If not, why do you think your TA needs to be lower?
Re: Cannot Get Total Alkalinity to Go Down
To be honest, I am a member of another Pool Forum and they always said TA should be between 70 and 90.
They are very strict and moderators were not real friendly. More condescending. So I don't want to deal with attitude, so I'm here hoping this is a more friendly and Relaxed bunch of people. I don't mind changing my ways to this Forums thinking, knowledge and opinions to better my pool water. I have been taking care of my Pool for over a year now with very little problems. My pool pump, baskets, etc...never have debris in them for any legnth of time. I had a Pool Guy for 6 years before I decided to take things into my own hands. My pool has never looked better. He was laxidasical and just dropped in chemicals and vacuumed. Never really took the initiative of maintaining the pool or equipment.
I have a Pool Heater but never use it.
No Salt water Generator either.
I was told by another Forum to keep TA between 70 and 90.

Well, I hope you'll enjoy our forum and feel welcome and comfortable here. We are glad to have you join us. :)
We don't go chasing numbers here; what works for one pool is not always the same as what works for another.
