Quote for variable speed pump

Putting in new pool. Standard pump included in base price is Jandy single-speed 3/4HP Stealth. For $1,100 can upgrade to a Jandy FloPro variable speed (either 3/4 or 1HP - can't tell). Doesn't make any sense to me - looks like I could buy the Stealth single speed for ~$525, and buy the FloPro VS for $690 - just $165 more. The $1,100 upgrade is almost 2x the entire cost of the FloPro VS.

Looks like I could get a utility company rebate of $350 on the FloPro VS, but still a $750.

Suggestions?
