Gettting a new liner this year, couple questions

Our liner is in rough condiiton and it needs to be replaced, we are going to start looking for a new one, does anyone have any places to look for a new one? We don't really want plain blue one, but one with some kind of pattern.

How hard is it for a layperson to change the liner in an AG 18 ft round pool?
We put the pool up ourselves and it went well, but I just wonder how many extra pairs of hands we will need for the new liner? There are three of us, so maybe another three??

Can anyone give me any pointers??

I haven't got the knowledge/experience to give advice on liners. But you could take a look at this post. Scroll down until you see the section on liners. There you'll find a number of threads to go through until someone with a bit more knowledgeable comes along ;)

Nothing to it, especially if you're going to get a j-mold liner (preferred).
On an overlap, you might need a couple of extra hands, but kids will do since there's 0 skill required.
I did my 30 foot j mold liner with a total of 3 adults and I helped my neighbour change his overlap liner on a 24 foot pool, between the two of us and a 6 and 10 year old we had it installed in no time.

Poolmom, when it comes to extra hands keep it to a minimum. More is not always better. A three person job at most. I enjoy working alone at times.

Dennis - don't get upset over that comment!!! Notice that I mentioned "you might need a couple extra hands" - that's all I meant by it - the need for hands - heck, if they wouldn't be prone to puncturing the liner, at this point, you could use clamps. To hold a liner in place does not require any skill - remember, the guy with the necessary rocket enginner skill level already placed it there at the right height - adjusted to the manufacturers specifications given the temperature and relative humidity cross referenced to the encrypted charts supplied by our friendly manufacturer in China, with the pretty print lined up exactly right so there is no skew in the design and no variation of height at the water line (unless Mr. Rocket Engineer built the pool crooked!).
But since Mr. Rocket Engineer is required to perform this painstaking task all around a 20 to 30 foot (FYI - that's between 80 and 100 linear feet of wall for those non rocket engineers) and his arm span is only 5 feet, it is obvious he will need unskilled labor to hold the allready calibrated liner in place as he performs his precision engineering around the remainder of this perimeter.

Is that better?? ;)

Matt, After all the effort you just described to get that liner set just perfect do you really think our rocket engineer would leave the very important job of holding that liner in place to mere humans. I don't think so. Humans can make mistakes. I think he would use a highly specialized tool made just for the job to be sure there was no human error. That is why they made the old wooden cloths pin you know. :)

We did try that ingenious contraption once, however, I believe the ones we had were not made on this continent since they kept popping off, thus, we resorted to the mere humans - since our construction funds were severely depleted by the Engineering liquid called "Beer" we had to use the cheaper option of "child labor" over the more expensive option of "wife" - easily satisfied through payment in ice cream.

BTW, be sure to avoid the other common type of labor mistakenly used for any type of project - "sullen teenager" and the other color, "surly teenager" Neither one of these are useful and often end up with pre-payment for work that never gets done. Been there, done that.

Hey Mom, I hear that one loud and clear. I have sent three of my daughters off to college but I have this one thirteen year old that's still around. We drag her out on weekends sometimes to get a little extra help. :rolleyes:

Well you guys were alot of help! We started draining the pond yesterday about 11 am and finished up with it about 10 tonight. We still have to add about 6 or 8 inches of water, but its all back together good and I will test the water in the morning and start the pump( yeah, there goes our low electric bills!!) The replacement went really smoothly, the original liner had LOTS of wrinkles in it, so this time I took a little extra time to smooth everything out and it looks great. The kids can't wait to bail off in it tommorow after school!!
So now the battle begins. I have my supply of bleach, borax and baking soda ready!! You should have seen the guys face when I got my liner when he asked if I needed any tabs or shock... and I just flippantly said, "No I am using bleach!" I thought he was going to swallow his tounge!!
