Hi: I'm about to have a new liner installed on 6/23... what's the best plan for adding chemicals (stabilizer, chlorine, baking soda, borax) to new pool water. When? Do I add anything before the pool is completely full?
I've been a BBB user for years, but have never had to start from zero! If there is a guide for this, that would be helpful!

Best plan?
1) Test your fill water before you put it in the pool so you know what to expect.
2) I like to get some chlorine in as it's filling.
3) pH and Chlorine come first unless something s funny about the fill water.

You can drizzle bleach in as you are filling. Just reach as far from the side of the pool as you can, being careful not to splash your liner or yourself. Take a clean broom or oar or something to stir the water up to mix in the bleach.

OK, will add some bleach as we begin filling. I'll wait on the other 'til the water level reaches the skimmer and then add based on testing. Hope this will keep algae out! I haven't had algae for 5-6 years and my goal is to start up with the new water/liner algae-free. :cool:Quote:

You're welcome! Remember, until you get some CYA in there, the chorine is going to disappear fast! You'll have to add bleach several times a day for the first week of so. A pain in the patootie ---yes! But, better than an algae bloom!

pool was drained tonite. should have the liner switch tomorrow if weather cooperates... some nasty thunderstorms around here lately! If all goes well, we'll begin filling the pool tomorrow afternoon sometime. Will try and post photos!

Looks like the new liner will have no wrinkles (unlike the old one) and the color is brilliant compared to the old faded liner. The process looks easy but awkward to handle. I'm glad I paid an installer to do this (this time). Next time, I might give it a try (hopefully many years from now)!
Added a cup of clorox last night and stirred it around. Will add a bit more this morning when the sun hits. Installer will come by to put the face-plates on today and then I can fill it up and get the water balanced.
Note: Instead of using shopvacs to suction the air out under the liner, the installer used a high speed fan like the kind used to dry out a flooded basement. They put the air intake over the skimmer basket cleanout opening and some kind of tube (cardboard?) under the liner wall from the skimmer wall opening down to the bottom of the wall. Looks like he can just pull the tube out, reattach the liner at the top and put on the skimmer face plate and he's done! This looks like it works much better than using vacs. The liner is so tight to the walls, it looks like it was sprayed on! No wrinkles at all.

Wow. You got the attachment system to work. Even I haven't figured out how to do that, yet. (Not that I'm going to put much effort in it -- vBulletin (the forum software) loses all the attachments every time I upgrade!)

Attaching photos is NOT very intuitive, but it does work if you persist. Will be adding more photos tomorrow. (I guess it's already tomorrow, now-- I just got up to turn off the fill water-- 3AM!) Anyway... Pool is now full and I'm working on balancing/testing. Everybody in the family wants to get in!Quote:

Here are the final pics... you can see how well the liner fits... almost looks sprayed on, the walls it fits so smoothly. The last pic is the pool filled up all the way.

CYA added enough to get to 40-50... have not tested yet
Salt approx. 2150 ppm, added 4-- 40 lb. bags will test again today, added the 4th bag last night to get to that level. No... I don't use a salt water chlorine generator, I just like the way the addition of salt makes the water feel!:cool:

Am checking the chorine 3X per day for now til the cya level comes up.
Thanks to Ben and the forum... this new fill was easy to balance immediatly based on what I learned here. My goal is no algae... EVER in this pool!
And, your goal is certainly reachable with consistent maintenance. Your pool looks beautiful. Enjoy yourself!
that is exact liner pattern i used in my change this year it look great when water is full congrats!
My liner installer says that this pattern is used in 75-80% of his installs. It IS striking when the pool is full.
