Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
Your free chemicals will probably be trichlor and cheap algaecide, so I wouldn't worry about those. They are worth just about nothing unless you can resell them.
Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
Honestly I'd go for the SWC and save up for the BBQ next year. You'll have so much free time with the SWC, you could build your own BBQ pit.....
Is there a significant cost difference between the Zeobrite and regular sand? Can you skip the Zeobrite and get both the grill and SWC? ;)
I run a SWC and sand filter with Al and Carl's DE "filter aid" trick. Crystal clear water and absolutely no hint of algae all season long.

LoL... well I need a filteration right? so zeobrite is just the sand I'd be using if I understood correctly
So nope. cannot substitue a BBQ pit for trading in my filteration setup. lol
Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
Can't you have them plumb for the SWG and then buy it yourself and install it? It will probably be cheaper to get on-line? We paid $1200 for ours with the pool - I hear other people getting it for closer to $800 here on the forum.
It depends on the BBQ - are they running gas line to it? It might be better to have them run the gas line, but then you install the pit yourself - you might save enough money for both.
Or you can do what DH and I did - we are looking at adding the Aqua logic system - figured it will cost $500 plus removing the child fence and installing alarms on the doors/windows. $500=10 times eating out = eating at home for the next two months.
Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
I'd also go with the SWCG. It makes maintaining the chlorine levels soooo much easier, especially if you need to go away for a few days. I have left mine for up to 12 days and come back to a sparkling clear pool except for a few leaves on the bottom. It will save you more than enough time to pay for itself, and allow more time for grilling when you purchase that.

Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
Is the BBQ an add-on that can easily be done after the fact, or is it intergral with the cement and landscape work and just won't be the same if you add it later? If so, I'd get the BBQ BUT spend the little bit extra to have everything set up to install a SWG. ie. electrical, timer, and piping with caps.
If the BBQ is an easy add-on, I'd get the SWG from the start too.

I am thinking I'll get something like my parents got, which is a brinkman stainless Steel w/ 3 burners. I can always build around it.
~~ I think I am gonna pull on the SWG and not get this grill.
Thanks!!
Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
did kabobs on one of those this past weekend..awesome bbq..that being said, i'd get the SWG. the money you save on chemicals will soon pay for the bbq and allow you more leisure time to cook with the simplicity of the SWG once you get it setup. zeobrite is only about 85 dollars for 100 lb (equivalent to 200 lb of sand for filteration)..not really expensive when you consider how long it will last you.
Re: SWG or Very nice BBQ Pit
Sweet momma, that's some grill! Just run the water under it and it's a pool heater. Where's the steering wheel and beds!!!
