What is the sight glass for on the filter valve? I dont understand why its there.
You can see when the water clears when backwashing.
oh! Thanks! I just watch the water until it looks clear.
this little viewing glass is full of junk and never clears out. Anyone else?
You may have a lot of dirt in your filter you haven't cleared out. If the sight glass doesn't go clear when you are backwashing (aside from a minute amount if sand that always seems to settle in the bottom), you have a problem somewhere in your filter, but there are too many possibilities to lay them out without more info.
You asked a simple, straight-forward question, and BigDave gave you the precise, exact answer.
