Has anyone succeeded at shocking a green pool without using the pump to circulate?

I could have saved myself a lot of time, typing, and thought if I had realized that etbrown4 is running an identical thread on TFP, asking identical questions (looks like a copy-and-paste job) and—not surprisingly—is getting identical answers.
