How Can I Keep The Alkalinity Up And PH Down
I live in Hawaii. The wind blows red dirt into the pool, this causes ferric oxide (iron stains). I have, thanks to this forum, removed a great deal of these stains utilizing the ascorbic acid method. However, because our water is soft the acid level rises and the alkalkinity drifts downwards.
I would like to keep the PH at 7.4 or below and the alkalinity at 100, to keep the staining to a minimum. How can this be achieved without constanly resorting to adding chemicals, any suggestions?
CYA = 30
CL = 4 (using Clorox Regular)
PH = 7.4
Alk = 100 (before adjustment for CYA)
Ca = 195
TDS = 340

Short answer, it can't. Bleach will pull your pH up, it's not the soft water moving your pH. Trying to keep your pH low will make you lose alkalinity. I'd go for pH 7.6. Keep it down as it rises with muriatic acid.

Thank you for the reply I was hopeing for hope that this would not be the answer. At least I am now at peace with my pool chemicals.
