An FYI for Robo-Kleen owners that may have problems

Our Robo-Kleen stopped moving at the end of last season and we were very dissappointed. I emailed the company and they said they would evaluate it for a diagnosis charge and determine what the problem was.

I had already narrowed it down to the gearbox and motor assembly and assumed it was stripped gears in the gearbox. I also found out that they don't sell the gearbox assembly alone, which was dissappointing.

Well long story short, the same addition to the house that caused us to hastily close our pool also sidetracked me from sending the robot in for repairs.

Fate is kind of quirky sometimes because when I took another look at what it would take to get it working at the urging of my wife I took the front drive assembly apart again. I doing so and trying to figure out a way into the PVC cemented gear box I spun the axle and the wheels turned and the gear attached stayed in place. Eureka!!!!

Seems as though the small pin the holds the gear to the axle had rusted and the motor was working and turning, but the gear wasn't attached to the axle anymore. One stainless bicycle spoke trimmed to fit later, good ol Robby the Robot was working just like he should!!!

Hope this may help someone down the road. I have heard people talk about stripped gears and wonder if it's an easy to replace pin.
