Re: Problem with Pump Motor
I'm a little confused. Is there water in the pump basket? If something broke, like the impeller came off the motor shaft, then the motor will gradually slow down when power is switched off. It will coast to a stop because there is no load on the motor. Same as no water in the basket. No load. A normally functioning pump will stop real quick. Keep us posted.

Re: Problem with Pump Motor
Yes water was in the basket and all was ok there.
After more research I found some things about the centifugal switch. It was stuck. Once I played with that a bit the pump came on.
All is ok now.
Thanks
Re: Problem with Pump Motor
Great to hear it was easy. I wonder how many new pumps are sold to replace a pump with a simple fix? In your case if the switch was stuck closed the armature would turn but at a slow speed and the motor would eventually smoke, or the thermal cutout would kick in, or a breaker would pop. If the contacts were not making contact the shaft wouldn't turn at all and the motor would just sit there and hum. Happy ending.
