Cracked sight valve

I was going to backwash my pool this a.m. but the sight glass leading into my separation tank cracked. Any suggestions on how to replace it? The sight glass is clear plastic plumbed into the PVC pipe leading from the DE filter into the tank. How can I get it out? Do I need to replace the sight glass and the pieces of PVC on both sides? I called the only open pool store in my area (it is Sunday) and they said they thought I'd have to replace both pieces of PVC and the sight glass, which I should get at Lowe's or a plumbing supply store as they don't carry that part. Any thoughts?
