Spring replacement for Jacuzzi Splash-Pak valve

Having a problem with my filter. It's a Jacuzzi Splash-Pak, model SS-185 (18-5" sand filter).

It's got a 6-way valve on top and normally you press down on the handle to rotate valve between positions. The spring is no longer engaged (handle will just flip up and down at the slightest touch) which means that the plate inside the valve doesn't lift making it extremely difficult to turn the valve.

Anybody know what might be wrong and how to repair it.....Is it just the spring? I'm going to take it apart again tonight to see if I can figure it out. Any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated!
