Should I lower TA?

27000 gallons Inground vinyl
FAC 3
TAC 3
PH 7.8
TA 150
CYA 30

Should I worry about lowering my alkalinity down to the 120 range? And if so can someone point me in the direction of a chart to calculate the amount of acid I need to add.

Just lowering and keeping your pH to something nearer 7.2 will lower the alk a good bit (I don't know exactly how much).

As to the possible negative effects of your current alkalinity, it depends on how high your calcium hardness is. If it's rather high your high alkalinity could cause calcium scaling.

The high alk will also place upward pressure on your pH.

If you do decide to lower it, follow the procedures here.

I would leave it alone. In a vinyl pool, you can really get away with alk as high as 200 or so (obviously it's no ideal, but....). 150 is not that bad.

Yes, I agree. It ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you had a heater or SWG you'd be close to the limit, but lowering your pH to 7.3 or 7.4 should fix that anyway. I think 7.8 is a little too high and like it a little lower.
