LAARS Lite LLG (temp.control) problem

One of the kiddos twister the temp, control dial full circle, and now the heater isn't working. My son checked the switch, and he says its bad. Have checked on-line, and the replacement part goes from $115-$350.

My questions are:

1. any idea where I can get a cheaper price?
2. Does it have to be ORIGINAL equipment?
3. Can I replace that temperature controller with a "degree" thermostat controller instead?
4.(do I have to by from LAARS?)


any an ALL help would be MOST appreciated.
