Is there any way to thoroughly clean a DE filter?? I have a Hayward EC 40 and I'm scared to death of taking it all apart.. I'm hoping there is another way.

I just cleaned mine this past weekend. I turned it upside down, removed the bottom bracket (that the panels clip in to) and then removed, cleaned and replaced one panel at a time. Hope this helps!
PS
Note the orientation of that bottom bracket so you put it back on correctly the first time...don't ask how I know.

Don't fear the filter, unless the installer didn't put unions (a/k/a quick disconnects) on the effluent port. Breaking it apart and cleaning it with a garden hose is a very! good idea once a year, and pretty easy! I've got a few posts on them here - sorry:( - I just don't have time tonight to do the 'cross- linking' - 12 hr day, shower, laundry, time with wife and dog, missing Mother's day flowers I sent to my mom... You could try an advanced search using "DE Filter" in the subject and "waste" in the username areas and probably find them - if you can't get them, I'll try to get back to this thread this week (looks like Wed might be a rain day, so I'll have time then). It's a very busy time of the year for pool dudes, so if I forget to respond by this time Wed, please just make a quick post here so that I remember to do it:o .

OK.. I followed the directions posted by WASTE and have the filter squeeky clean.. Now I have another situation.. We replaced the 15 bolts and nuts on the cover (using WaterLube grease) and now I have a slight leak around 3 of the bolts. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Luci, glad I was able to help, sorry I didn't have time to put up the links. It sounds like the sealing gasket got 'pinched' and has a little wrinkle that didn't seat properly - pull the top back off and make sure that the gsket is in correctly - this skould take care of it. If you need more help, just ask
BTW did you try further tightening (with a wrench on both the nut and the bolt?) with the system off?
Waste, We have checked and rechecked the gasket.. Is there any other kind of sealer we can use other than the WATER LUBE ?? Also is there a special way the bolts should be tightened.. We did the North, South East West thing like you posted before.. I'm about ready to toss it over the back fence..Quote:

We replaced the gasket, and tried at least 9 times (adding more goop each time) and no matter what.. it is still slightly leaking in 2 spots. I figure that they are only small drips and I can always add water when it gets low.. ;)Quote:
