Can't get the green out...
I have a 18X4 easy set pool. I normally don't have a problem getting it going (with everyones help from here of course) but this year its killing me...We kept it up all year long but no cover so we started by getting all the leaves out so thats done. Then we "shocked" it with bleach to get our levels up so my test kit is BRIGHT yellow - all other levels are good PH is at 7.6 and my CYA has always been at 60. The pool is a clearish green definatly better than what we started with. I can't see the bottom of the pool yet though...any suggestions? Or just keep the pool at shock levels for several days? Oh yeah we're had it at shock levels now for almost 1 week straight. HELP ANYONE?????? Thank you!! :)
Re: Can't get the green out...
If your CYA is STILL 60, then your shock level needs to be 20ppm. You'll need to hold it at 20 until it clears.
You didn't post your shock level or your pH. Chlorine works better when pH is on the low side. If it's high, like 7.8-8.0, you are hampering your chlorine. Try to keep pH in the 7.3-7.5 range.
Re: Can't get the green out...
Okay thats what I thought about keeping it at shock levels but it seems like its taking longer this year then it ever has in the past! :) Thank you!!!
Re: Can't get the green out...
If your kit is showing bright yellow, then you are using an OTO kit which only measures chlorine levels up to 5. How are you verifying what your cl level is? Also, did you test your cya at startup so that you know it is still 60? Many pools will lose some cya over the winter, so you always need to test it at startup and not assume that your level is still the same that is has always been.
Re: Can't get the green out...
I haven't test my CYA this year because I'm out of the stabalizer solution - I can't find refills :( Any suggestions?
Re: Can't get the green out...
Order Reagent 0013 on-line from either Leslie's on-line service or Taylortechnologies.com
In fact, you can order anything and every combination of test kit from either. You can even build your own.
The Taylor K-2006-C is basically the same thing as Ben's PS-234. The Leslie's FAS-DPD Chlorine Service Test Kit is nearly the same--my only suggestion is to augment that with the Taylor/Leslies OTO test kit that uses Reagent 0014 for the pH test--it's got chlorine neutralizer in it so higher chlorine levels don't skew the test.
Even with an Intex either will pay for itself in NO time!
