Can anyone here instruct me as to how to properly drain and winterize a heat pump? :confused: Specifically, Heat Siphon model. i looked in the manual, and i saw no mention of a drain plug. It just arrived Thursday, and we are installing it now, but i want to have a game plan ready come winter. Any help will be appreciated.
I have one - & here is what I was instructed to do (by the pool store) and have never had a problem,
You should have 2 pipes in and out with quick connects.
1) Disconnect the pipes
2) blow out the lines (Shop vac etc).
3) Add RV antifreeze in from the top( May have to use had of flex funnel to get it in)
4) Reconnect pipes or seal ( duct tape or another method) so no critters get in

What I did with my pool heater before last winter was I disconnected the outlet hose, and left the inlet hose on, then I poured a gallon of RV antifreeze in there untill it ran out the outlet pink, at that point I figured I was done. Time will tell if it worked or not though, once I open it up in around a month. Oh, I also took a tarp and tightly covered it for the winter to keep ice from getting in there and causing damage.

My installer took the cheap way out and glued the PVC pipe into the inlet and outlets of the heat siphon heat pump exchanger fittings. I drilled a hole in the lowest part of the PVC pipe coming from the bottom of the heat pump and tapped it for a screw. A few wraps of teflon tape around the threads of the screw keeps it water tight and I can now remove almost all of the water by blowing air into the unit while that screw is out.
