Spa Seat - Jet Repair

My vinyl liner IG pool has a 'spa seat' built into the sidewall in the shallow end. The spa seat has several (4) hydrotherapy jets built-in.

About 3 years ago, when I had my PB close my pool for the last time, the service guys pried out one of the jets with a screwdriver. The jet broke, but he said not to worry -- that the service guy who comes out to open the pool in the spring will replace the jet. The jet was replaced the next spring.

I then began closing/opening the pool myself.

When it was time to close the pool the following fall, I had a tough time getting the same jet out of the seat. But, finally, the jet came out and I closed up the pool.

Last spring --this is at least 18 months since the PB last closed my pool -- the same jet was almost impossible to screw back into its socket. But I didn't have the time to investigate. Last fall when I closed the pool and dropped the water level, I noticed that the threads on the socket are gouged and this is probably what is causing the jet to not install properly.

I would like to replace the socket for the jet, but I don't know if this is possible, especially by me, by just lowering the water level and somehow disconnecting/replacing the socket from the jet. I also dont know what kind of connection exists behind the socket -- I would assume there is some kind of PVC cemented connection, just like all the rest of the plumbing.

Is this a simple process to replace, or am I looking at possibly excavating under the pool deck just to get at the socket's connection?

I would try retapping the threads that are messed up with a metal pipe fitting with the same threads. That might put the plastic back where it should be.

Tried that, but no go. The threaded ring that holds in the jet is 1-3/4" in diameter. Could not find any metal plumbing fittings that diameter -- everything seems to be 1-1/2 or 2".

The jet is a Hayward SP1434 hydrotherapy jet. I've been able to remover the ring that hold the jet to the wall of the seat, but that doesn't help the situation other than to get a little better look at the messed up threads.

I am going to try to file or re-cut the threads by hand-- at least to see if I can get the threaded ring to sit right.

Otherwise, anybody know of to replace one of these jets without having access to the back/wall of the seat (which is under the concrete deck?
