Shells in Pebble Tec
I have been gunited for about four weeks. Has anyone had any problems with the shells they put in pebble sheen? The color I want to use is the Ocean Blue that looks like Tahoe Blue in Pebble Tec but it has the smaller rock and it also has abalone type shells. I was told by non pebble tec companies not to do it that it may rust, but why would a company like Pebble Tec offer it if there was a problem?

Re: Shells in Pebble Tec
Rust??? I thought you need iron to have rust and I don't believe that any kind of seashells would have iron as a component, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm no marine biologist.
We have Ocean Blue PebbleSheen and absolutely love it. It's only been in use since early June, so I can't speak to longevity. However, in speaking with a District/Area Sales Manager (not sure of the exact title) for Pebble Tec in this area, he told me that the shells were not warranted because the company didn't have long-term testing results on them. He said that as of the date of our conversation (March '06), Pebble Tec hadn't had any problems with the shells not holding up and they didn't expect any. He also told me that if the shells failed/disintegrated/whatever, that the integrity of the finish wouldn't be compromised, it would just have a slightly bigger space between nearby pebbles.
I can say if one of the shells in our finish were to disintegrate, I don't think I'd even notice, the shells and the pebbles are that small.
The shells are great, though, as they catch the sunlight and add to the sparkle of the pool water on a sunny day.
