SWG and otters
We are looking at renovating an otter pool at our local zoo and I was wondering if anyone had experience with SWG's in otter pools. If anyone has any other info on otter pools, I'm all ears. I've got another post going in the off-topic section about it as well. Thanks

Re: SWG and otters
Otters are considered mammals, which are tolerant of salt and chlorine. We have AutoPilot's on Dolphin recovery tanks at Mote Marine in Sarasota, using filtered Gulf of Mexico water.
I would check with the local vet to see what they consider a high salinity or chlorine tolerance level for otters to be.

Re: SWG and otters
We have Watermaid units on dolphin pools as well and we just installed a unit on a dog therapy pool and they are used on horse and people therapy pools. Sean is right; you need to check with a vet to see what kind of chlorine level they can tolerate. These are ocean otters not their landlocked cousins right? If they are the freshwater variety, I am sure that there will be different salt level requirements. Units can be calibrated to any salt level from 400 parts per million to saturation. Most manufacturers are happy to help out little furry critters so I am sure that whatever model you choose, you will get lots of help.
