Low Pressure
Two things odd started last night when running my pool filter.
1st) when I turned on the filter I noticed water was not pulling thru the motor after I cleaned the filter. I filled with water and it started to pull but at 50% of what it usually does.
2nd) the pressure on my sand filter is very low. can these be related. My pressure is usally at 30 now is around 5.
any advice would be great. I have an in gound pool.
thanks!

Re: Low Pressure
You probably have a restriction somewhere between the impeller and the skimmer. Low pressure is indicative of something blocking the water coming from the pool to the pump. If that portion of your system is unblocked, the problem is most likely right at the impeller.

Re: Low Pressure
When our pressure was about 1/2 what it normally is, my husband thought we might need new sand because ours looked gooey. And in the process of changing that, he broke off 2 of the laterals. So we had to order those. After a 2 week wait, they finally come. So he puts it all back together including new sand, but the pressure was still low. Then he decides to try a new gauge. That of course wasn't the problem either. When he starts panicking that we have a leak underground somewhere, I convince him to call the pool store. It ended up that all that was wrong was a lost gasket in the pump. I have no idea how it got off, or where it went, but that's all that was wrong.
In our case it would have been faster and cheaper just to have called the expert in the first place. :)

Re: Low Pressure
slater,
When you say the "water was not pulling thru the motor after I cleaned the filter" are you referring to the pump strainer (aka hair and lint pot, aka pump basket, aka the part of your pump with the clear lid, etc.)? If so, the problem is very likely that the o-ring that seals that lid got put back in a little off kilter. Check there first.
Best of luck.

Re: Low Pressure
these are all great suggestions.
I will try and fix today.
Yes I was referring to the pump filter. I'll check the seal:)
