How do you manage your SWG chlorination level?
Hi all - I've been running my SWG pool for almost a month now and was curious how people adjusted their SWG chlorination level based on:
- bather load - do you bump it up when you're expecting a high bather load? How high do you increase it? For how long? How soon before you expect the bather load do you increase it?
- rain - same questions as above - how high do you increase it, for how long?
Or perhaps since the cell effectively "shocks" continuously, do you keep it at the same level, but run it longer? If so, how long?
Finally, what if I find that I have a small amount (0.5) of CC? Do you need to shock? Should I turn on the superchlorinate function? Or do I just keep the cell at the same level but run it longer?

I use bleach when I need an extra boost. It is much easier then messing with the output of the SWG.

We don't have much rain in the summer but if I did I would use bleach as above.

Yes, I keep it fairly constant during the summer. However, since I run the pump longer during the hottest days, the chlorine level goes up with the extra run time. SWG run time and power settings will be proportional to the pool volume so take that into account when viewing different times and settings. Currently, my pump runs 6 hours per day and a SWG setting of 50% for a CL of just over 2 ppm. 21,000 gallon pool.

0.5 cc is probably not worth shocking but if it gets close to 1 ppm I would use bleach as a shock. So far, I have not needed to shock.

After a rain I really don't do much besides adjust pH back into a 7.4-7.6 range if needed. If I have a high bather load, I'll run the pump longer for a day or so. My Cl level stays pretty consistent without much adjustment to the Autopilot controller. (33% for a SC-60 to maintain 3-5 ppm FC at 60 CYA and 8 hrs pump run time/day in my 19,000 gal IG vinyl pool).
