shock at first sign of CC ?
hi.
(1) i'm using ben's best guess, with a CYA of ~60.
so i know that means to always keep the FC at
5 ppm to 10 ppm.
should i shock (push FC up to 20) whenEVER i have any CC reading ?
or is it ok to let the CC build up a while.
(2) also, i assume that i push the existing FC up to 20, and do not simply
add 20ppm worth of chlorine. is this correct ?
thanks in advance
max
Re: shock at first sign of CC ?
From what I have read on this site most will shock when they have a CC of .5.
Re: shock at first sign of CC ?
Max - the answer to your second question is "Yes, you assume correctly." :)
To shock your pool with ~60 CYA, you move your FC from wherever it is to 20 or so. If you're already testing your water at 5, then you put in enough bleach or calhypo to increase your FC reading by at least 15.

I would generally shock if a CC reading was greater than .5 ppm.

As dawndenise clearly pointed out, you are correct:)
