Help converting from Shock and Sticks

I would like help converting from Burn Out Extreme Shock, Algeacide, and Smart Sticks to chlorine bleach. I have a 24 ft above ground round pool using a sand filter in complete sun running my filter at least eight hours a day. Right now, I have a light green pool and am trying to get it back to clear. I have a current post about treating the "algae" on the problem forum. I would like to know how to use the bleach calculator and best guess information to convert my pool water over and keep it there. I do not have anything other than a two way drop test kit right now. I will take my water into the pool store in the morning to get full readings to place and get a better idea of exactly what my chlorine levels should be and pH levels should be on the calculator and best guess. I would appreciate any advice I could get. I have dealt with the pool store this summer which has been a nightmare this year. I would like to enjoy the last two months of the summer without having to worry about water problems and a "money pit". Many thanks for upcoming info and advice.

You will need a complete set of numbers but I'd bet your CYA is very high which is why the 'shock' products are no longer helping. You will have to either run a higher chlorine level to accomodate, or drain and refill the pool to dilute CYA down to 30-50ppm.

The BleachCalc is set to do multiple types of calculations depending on which variable you supply. Usually you enter figures in -some- of the white fields and the answers are shown in the grey. For example, if you want to know how much X% bleach to add to Y gallons to raise chlorine Zppm, you enter those three variables (X,Y,Z) and hit calculate to get the answer.

Be sure to first go to MoreCalcs>Settings and set it to Imperial to get US gallons. Also note that it will calculate the water volume of your pool, a number you will need for everything else.
