ClorMatic II Burned Circuit Board?

I have a ClorMatic II which stopped working -- I get lots of intermittent beeps when it's on. I've unplugged it, so don't remember what it it read on the panel, but it was not sensible.

I've called a pool service center to give me a recommendation on what to do, so they sent out one of their technicians, who said the circuit board has fried. He claims it is a common thing with this generator, and my only option is to replace it.

Can this be repaired? If not, do all the chlorine generators fit in the same length as this one? Basically, can I just unhook this and hook in a new one?
