Switched and starting using bleach 2 weeks ago. I must have added to much and cholrine level went very high but the water was clear. Was coming down slowly but was still high. Then in a 24 hour period went from high to almost not reading and water went from clear to very clouldy. Is this normal.
Would your cya levels be high? Maybe you need to get a sample tested and post results?

I had added another gallon of bleach but still the same after another 24 hours. 18" x 4' above ground pool. It went from very clear to so cloudly cant see the bottom in 24 hours. I just checked it with the test strips and everything is now reading the highest level. What would cause the CYA to go up on its own?
I am guessing it is time to drain and replace at least 1/2 the water?
Test strips just aren't accurate enough, especially if there is a problem. If possible, please take a water sample to pool store and have them test for free chlorine, total chlorine, combined chlorine, CYA, alk, pH, hardness. Until then, we really can't give any reasonable advice. We would also need to know the type of pool, and its volume.Quote:

CaryB is right, anything you do now is only a guess. If you are serious about properly taking care of your pool, dump the "guess" strips and get a good drops based test kit. Needless to say, around here we all prefer the PS234 sold here http://www.poolsolutions.com/cart/kits.php however Taylor makes similar kits for a little more money. Be sure you get a FAS-DPD test for chlorine. At the very least, get the $15 Wal-Mart 6-way test kit but beware that it will not test for chlorine above 5ppm.
