Strange PVC Piping
I am having a pool installed and the plumbers have installed this PVC piping that sticks out of the ground. We do not have any "water features" at these locations and actually will be beyond the size of the pool deck.
Can someone tell me why they are there?

Re: Strange PVC Piping
Simmons, the only thing I can think that they are 'well points' (aka 'french drains'), there was a pic in your set that showed the MDs with a couple of other pipes behind them (when the steel was laid). Why 2, I can't tell you. However, that's my best guess as to what they are.

Re: Strange PVC Piping
Would this to be to drain water from the pool deck or from a high water event in the pool?
We have a REALLY high water table - we are only about 5 feet above the current water table level - so drainage is really important.

Re: Strange PVC Piping
The purpose of well points is to lower the water table in the are you are going to excavate. Without the water table lowered, the wet ground would just continue to sluff in and the size of the hole would keep getting bigger and the depth may never be attained. I have worked underground for years and this can effectively bring work to a halt, you have to get control of the water if you expect to have any control over the job.

Re: Strange PVC Piping
Other possibilities include:
- Electrical raceway for fiberoptic light boxes
- Hydrostatic or anti-entrapment lines
wow....cant think of anything else that would require placing pipe straight up before a deck is layed.

Re: Strange PVC Piping
Simmons99, I was looking at your gallery and got a great kick out of the letter you posted from your neighbors itemizing $72 and change for the pineapple plants the bobcat ran over. I would not pay them the $6 and change for the hose nozzle, I think that is pushing it. I would pay them in pennies myself. SoCal might be expensive, but if I had a neighbor like that at least I would a fence separating me from them. I would also put my pool equipment as close to the property line as possible. I would also play very loud music when you are out at the pool.

Re: Strange PVC Piping
Yeah - you can check out the "whole" story in off topic. I posted our "reply" letter:D
Anyway - thanks for all your opinions. The only one that makes sense is the water issue - there are no fiber optics. I guess I will ask the pool builder - he just isn't very talkative on the phone - and I've felt bad for the poor guy since my neighbors keep calling him :(
