Cloudy water help.. long.. New Here!!

I have a very cloudy pool, I have a 15000 gallon pool, I added 2, 182 fluid onzes = 1.42 gallong each. of bleach clorox.
Is this enouph? I am trying to get it clear. I am no sure how much to add to make it clear.
I took the below ready before adding the clorox.

cy= 0
ph = 6.2
also, when i opened this pool it was very dark and had algae. my fiance fixed the algage problem and we just vacumm alot of the recidue of the algae that was white powder color. I am sure there still is alot of cleaning to do, but I just need help on how to get to the right levels.
I am a new!!!! pool owner.. but the pool is very old..
I have a sand filter, and sand from last year.

Hi, I'm sure the experts will be along soon with an answer for you, but in the meantime here's some information that will help you along. I just finished the battle of the cloudy water with my pool, and after discovering this forum and the information here it was crystal clear in less than a week.

You are off to a good start, the key is going to be keeping your pool at shock level until the water is completely clear. There are two tools on here that will help you do that. The first is Ben's "best guess" CYA chart. This is in a sticky in the Using Chlorine and Chlorinating Chemicals thread, and it looks like this:

Use the info in this chart to help you figure out what levels of chlorine you need to maintain in your pool based on the amount of CYA (cyanuric acid, also called stabilizer) that you have in your pool. (FC = free chlorine)

Stabilizer . . . . . . Min. FC . . . . Max FC . . . 'Shock' FC
=> 0 ppm . . . . . . . 1 ppm . . . . . 3 ppm . . . . 10 ppm
=> 10 - 20 ppm . . . . 2 ppm . . . . . 5 ppm . . . . 12 ppm
=> 30 - 50 ppm . . . . 3 ppm . . . . . 6 ppm . . . . 15 ppm
=> 60 - 90 ppm . . . . 5 ppm . . . . . 10 ppm . . .. 20 ppm
=> 100 - 200 ppm . . . 8 ppm . . . . . 15 ppm . . .. 25 ppm
Since your CYA is 0, Shock for you is a free chlorine (FC) above 10. Test your water at least twice a day (morning and evening) and keep adding bleach to bring it back up to shock each time. When your water is clear and the FC level stays the same overnight, you're ready to let it drop back down.

When you run it, click on more calcs, go to settings in the drop down box, and change unit of measure to Imperial, that will give you the numbers in gallons. Then just input the size of your pool, percentage of the bleach you are using, and the desired ppm increase and it will tell you how much bleach to add.

Those two tools will make keeping a clear pool (along with proper testing) an easy job! Also, if your PH reading is correct, you're going to need to get it up pronto. You can use 20 Mule team Borax to increase your PH. I'm sure the others here in the forum can tell you more about what to do for that.

Don is right on. Just get your ph up as fast as you can - anything below 7 is acidic and can damage your liner - if it is a liner pool? Your chlorine at 0 is because you are still fighting algae. You have to get some cya in the water to hold the chlorine - it will get eaten by the sun - and with the algae, you will just constantly be putting bleach in. You can put it in the skimmer, or put it in a sock and tie it on the ladder so that it dissolves, if you put it in the skimmer, you will not be able to backwash for a week, and with algae you will want to backwash earlier than a week. The stabilizer dissolves very slowly. Next check out the bleach calc - but 1 gal of 5% bleach will bring your chlorine up 5ppms in 10,000 gals, so you will need about 3 gal to get you to shock level for your pool. The more consistant you can be by testing and adding chlorine back up to 10, the faster you will clear the pool.
