Pool new by, trying to learn!

I recently took my water in to be tested after over more than a month of battles. I was told my water was testing great finally!!!!! But... My pool was green. I was then told to flock it. I have an intex 18ft around above ground (5500 gallons) with an intex sand filter so I can vacuum out the waste. Nothing happened except clear jelly fish bits on top the first time I flocked it. So I was then told (by a friend) to try the hth green to blue super shock. I did the 2 first steps exactly how it instructed. I woke this morning to a green slimy mess floating on top. It's only been a little over 12 hours but im nervous. It doesnt seem like any of it is faling to the bottom. And it looks like swamp think took up residence in my pool! I dont know wether to put more flock, or clean out the nasty stuff with a net and shock it .. Im at a loss. I have 5 gallons of liquid chlorine and 2 bags of shock in my pool shed and also another bag of flock. This has been such a hard learning experience and unfortunately the pool place near me seem to be taking advantage of my lack of knowledge on the subject and keep having me buy things that are not working. They are very rude and condescending as well. So i thought id join this forum so i can get advice from someone other than them and freinds... (And all the friends have different advice lol)
