Water Chemistry

I had an Endless pool (7 X 14) room (22 X16) added back to back to our 2-car garage. It was filled on 5/18/16 with well water trucked in from A-1 Water Wagon located in Daunesburg, N.Y. 12056.

Brand new pool owner! I believed everyone’s word that taking care of the water was a snap. Well here it is 9 months later and I still love swimming but haven’t figured out the formula that this new baby needs.

I’m 84 years old and am the only swimmer who uses it and I swim 1/2 hour each day generally early in AM. It should be easy! At the beginning I just listened to everyone and was putting in too much Clorox. The water has always looked clear and beautiful but after 3 or 4 months of swimming, my skin became itchy, hot and uncomfortable….not while swimming but later in the day. I lowered Cl to 1/4 or 1/8 Cl after each swim. I would have one swim as the pH passed by 7.5 on its way up. I was told to get my TA up to 120 and added baking soda till that happened. Then I started adding sodium bisulfate (pH Down by Clorox) by tablespoons to lower pH.

I owe Taylor’s K-2006 kit. I use distilled water to clean the parameter after each test. I sit on the side of the pool and dip down to my elbow to get sample of water. The pH will be yellow on first test and immediately clean it out and do another and its high.


I’ve become aware that there are two main schools of thought, one like yours that say Chlorine and pH are what’s important and then there are those that say TA is more important because if it’s low it can’t act as a buffer to keep the pH stable.

I'm trying to swim when my pool is lower in Cl and my pH is 7.5 every time. And I’m tired of taking so many water readings.

I’m so willing to pay for someone to teach me how to make this happen.
