Does anyone know of the name or family of bacteria that consume free chlorine and leave ammonia in the pool water?
I have dealt with these issues before in the field by SUPER-chlorinating (50ppm and higher), but can not remember the name of the bacteria that caused this problem. These bacteria also can consume the residual CYA from the prior year, often what i would look for - no CYA and presence of ammonia.
